The joys of off-season

Last Saturday was the final race of the season for me and now I can work on my recovery during the off-season. It’s the time of year when I throw away the training plan and do whatever the hell I want.

If I want to go out for a ride then I can now choose freely between road, mountain or cyclocross bikes without feeling bad about not completing training targets. If I want to run then I go for as hard or as easy as I want and where I want.

In recent weeks I started with a little bit more trail running. Living in Switzerland trail running is the perfect autumn activity. Getting out and exploring the local forests is fantastic and the changing colour of the leaves is great to experience. It’s also an amazing way to switch off and empty my head.

My rest from structured training will likely take me up to the end of October. I still plan on doing a bit of everything but that’s all it’ll be. A bit and not a lot. This also gives me time to decide on my goals for 2018.
